Since the semester has started, I haven gained a significant understanding of my writing, my peers’ writing, and also on the types of genres in writing. As recommended in the Q&A, I will be writing about my past writing pieces in chronological order, and speak about my experiences and what I learned from each piece.

In my first reflective analysis, I believe it was a great starting point in my writing journey during this course. Although my writing at that point in time was not my strongest, I definitely learned a lot while working on my module 1 writing assignments. Some things I learned more about during module 1 was about what really means to have a genre in your writing. By reading articles, such as Genre in The Wild, and by reading my classmates’ pieces, I was able to learn that genre is a much more personal touch in our writing.

Module 2, the start of our Activist pieces, was probably the hardest assignment for me to begin. The topic for my piece was about how time heals, and the goal of my article was to convince the audience to agree with my views. When. I had first started my piece, I had made the mistake of making my piece more opinionated, rather than a factual, informational writing piece. After reading the feedback received by my professor and peers, I was then able to do more research on the topic of my piece, and use reliable sources of evidence on how time heals emotional wounds. After editing and reediting this piece, I believe this was probably the piece I was most proud in with the improvements I had made on the piece.

The third reflective analysis was my favorite assignment we were given out of all of our modules. Although it was a bit challenging deciding on what to write about for this assignment, I really enjoyed the freedom we were given in choosing what we wanted to write about for our group profile assignment. I overcame my indecisiveness in what topic to write about by creating a list of groups I was or had been apart of, but I narrowed it down to groups I had joined during my time in quarantine. The group I chose to write about was Geocaching, a. recreational scavenger hunt activity. I enjoyed writing about this topic because it was one of the first groups I had enjoyed being apart of since Covid-19 had come into the United States. Writing about a group that had brought me joy during these confusing times was one of my favorite parts of this semester.

Out of all the assignments we were assigned, module four was probably the easiest one to write about. One thing I really enjoyed about this assignment was the freedom we were given in picking the prompt of our piece. Module three helped me a lot in figuring out on how to decide what to pick for my prompt. After making a list of things to write about, I narrowed it down and decided to write about how changing your major in college should be normalized and de-stigmatized. I used what I had learned from the previous modules, and made sure to make the meaning and goal of my writing to be clear and concise for my targeted audience.

Overall, I believe my writing has significantly improved since this course has started. I read all the sample articles given to us, and also read and used the feedback given to me by my peers. I believe the thing that helped me the most in this course was the feedback I received from my classmates about. my writing. I found it very helpful receiving feedback and advice from so many different types of people.
