While first starting the group profile assignment, I was surprised to see how much freedom we were given on it. Since I have always been so use to writing a piece based off a list of instructions or prompts, I believed that the amount of freedom given to me for this piece would make things much easier, but I was quick to realize how wrong that belief was. I had a hard time trying to figure out what to write about for my group profile. I was originally going to talk about the group profile of the lgbtq+ community, but I found it difficult to write about that community since it is nearly impossible to be able to describe everyone who is apart of that community under the same description. After creating a list of possible group profiles to write about, I narrowed my options down to those that I had joined or rediscovered while being in quarantine.

I chose to write about the geocaching group because I felt that it was a group that not many people actually know about. I thought that writing about this group could give people a better insight on how geocaching properly works. Although I was already a part of this group, I chose to do more research on it so that the audience would not think I was just describing this group’s profile based on my personal opinions and experiences. When I originally started writing this piece, I made the mistake of talking about my own personal experiences with this group, rather than describing geocaching based off proper facts and sources. Once I had done more research I was able to find more ways to describe the profile of the members of the geocaching community.

My favorite part of writing this piece was being able to make my audience more aware of the benefits and purpose of geocaching. My goal when writing about my group profile was to bring more awareness to this hidden, recreational group, so that those who have been interested about geocaching could become more informed.

Although I found this assignment to be a bit more difficult in choosing on what I should write about, this was probably my favorite assigned writing piece that we have had out of all the modules we have worked on. I enjoyed being able to be creative with my own writing prompts while also using the writing styles we have learnt in this module.
